Maine Technology Institue (MTI)
The Maine Technology Institute (MTI) supports Maine companies' early stage
research and development efforts leading to commercialization of new products
and services. Thanks to MTI's Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP),
small, technology-oriented businesses in Maine receive much-needed assistance
in bringing their products to market through Commercialization Workshops and
the Maine Tech Tracker Mentoring Network.
Offered in Portland and Orono, the Commercialization Workshops are a series
of 10 intensive courses on topics that are vital to developing and operating
a successful business. Topics include pricing and costing, intellectual
property and legal issues, marketing, accounting, and research and
development project management. Instructors for the series are seasoned
professionals with proven expertise in their market segment.
The Maine Tech Tracker Mentoring Network is an association of business
professionals with experience taking businesses from idea to fruition. Each
Tech Tracker has committed to attending the Commercialization Workshops with
his or her partner, and to providing ongoing advice and support for a full
year, supporting the new businesses' crucial early growth stage.
“What we've been noticing since the Maine Technology Institute was
established, is that brilliant scientists and engineers are not necessarily
the best business people. This program has allowed them to enormously
accelerate the process of getting their products from lab to market by
building relationships and networking.”
