Why Maine?
Pine Tree Development Zones:Pine Tree Development Zones:

Pine Tree Development Zone (PTDZ) program offers eligible businesses the chance to greatly reduce or virtually eliminate state taxes for up to ten years. Our goal is to:

• Create quality jobs in targeted industries
• Support new or expanding Maine businesses, and businesses relocating or establishing a Maine presence.


*New* Important Information:
On 06/22/2009, LD 1473 was passed by the Maine legislature and signed by the Governor. This legislation modified the existing Pine Tree Development Zone program from being limited by location to being open statewide. If you have questions about the modifications, please contact your local Business Development Specialist.

• Aquaculture and marine technology
• Composite materials technology
• Environmental technology
• Advanced technologies for forestry and agriculture
• Information technology
• Manufacturing, including precision manufacturing technology
• Financial services


Benefits

For 2009, otherwise eligible businesses will have access to 10 years of benefits, regardless of location in Maine. Beginning in 2010, newly-certified businesses locating in certain municipalities in York and Cumberland counties will be limited to 5 years of benefits. A list of municipalities that limit duration of benefits to 5 years, based on prior calendar year Department of Labor unemployment data, will be provided when DOL data for 2009 becomes available.
